Weekly Harvest of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Activities

Intensive Activities and Decisions Supporting the Development of University Education and Enhancing Scientific Research

During the past week, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research continued implementing its plan to develop the higher education and scientific research system through a series of high-level meetings, field visits, and events aimed at supporting the quality of university education, enhancing applied scientific research, and expanding prospects for international cooperation, in line with the state’s goals of building a knowledge-based economy.

Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, met with His Royal Highness Prince Radu of Romania, in the presence of Ambassador Olivia Toderean, Ambassador of Romania to Egypt, to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The meeting addressed mechanisms to enhance scientific cooperation between Egyptian and Romanian universities, including academic exchange visits, joint programs, dual degrees, scholarships, and student exchange initiatives. Dr. Konsowa affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the internationalization of higher education through partnerships with leading global academic institutions, contributing to the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practices in educational development.

Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, together with Dr. Ahmed El-Ansary, Governor of Giza, and Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek, President of Cairo University, inaugurated the annual Cairo University Employment and Training Fair, considered the largest of its kind, with the participation of approximately 130 local and international companies and institutions. The Minister explained that the convening of the forum reflects an advanced understanding of the importance of linking educational outcomes with labor market needs, as one of the key pillars of the Egyptian state’s strategy implemented under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, with the aim of building a knowledge-based economy and maximizing the potential of youth. He highlighted the importance of partnership among educational institutions, productive sectors, and government entities to ensure the preparation of graduates who possess academic knowledge, practical skills, and the ability to innovate and adapt to future requirements.

Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Dr. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, inaugurated the activities of the 14th International Conference of Ain Shams University, held under the title: “Universities as Engines of National Development: Towards Innovation and Sustainable Economic Growth,” with broad participation from academic and research leaders, international experts, decision-makers, and representatives of industry sectors. In his speech, the Minister emphasized that current global challenges necessitate strengthening integration between academic institutions and various state sectors to achieve sustainable development and build a better future for coming generations. He expressed his aspiration that the conference would produce practical and implementable recommendations that reinforce the role of universities as key drivers of economic growth and centers for knowledge production and innovation.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, and Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, held an expanded meeting with presidents of Egyptian universities to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation and integrating efforts within the comprehensive health insurance system. The Minister of Higher Education highlighted the importance of maximizing the benefit from the academic and scientific expertise of faculty members, positively reflecting on the quality of healthcare services provided. He affirmed that continued coordination between the two ministries would support efforts to develop the healthcare system, noting that implementing comprehensive health insurance would contribute to increasing hospital capacity and improving treatment services, ensuring the sustainable development of healthcare in Egypt.

Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, held a meeting attended by Dr. Gina El-Feky, Acting President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and General Supervisor of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank; Major General Dr. Mostafa El-Naqeeb, Director of the Medical Research and Regenerative Medicine Center at the Ministry of Defense; and Major General Dr. Khaled Amer, Principal Investigator of the Genome Project. The meeting addressed the project’s efforts in studying the genomes of talented and gifted individuals due to its significance in supporting mechanisms for the early discovery of exceptional capabilities among new generations and providing suitable opportunities for their support and care. The Minister stressed the importance of expanding the project’s scope by launching competitive calls for sub-research projects in relevant fields in cooperation with universities and research centers, affirming the Ministry’s readiness to provide the necessary financial support in collaboration with research funding bodies affiliated with the Ministry.

Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, inaugurated a new building at the University of Hertfordshire in Egypt as part of the university’s ongoing expansion plan and in support of developing the higher education system according to the latest international standards. During his speech, Dr. Konsowa affirmed that the Egyptian state places the development of higher education among its top priorities, noting that partnerships with international universities represent a key pillar in transferring global expertise and localizing knowledge within Egypt. He also emphasized the importance of linking education with industry and labor market needs through the implementation of the “Faculty to Factory” model, which aims to transform scientific research outputs into industrial and economic applications, thereby maximizing the role of scientific research in supporting development plans.

Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Eng. Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria, attended the launch of celebrations marking the anniversary of the founding of Alexandria under the slogan “Alexandria: Birthplace of a Global City.” The Minister noted that Alexandria possesses advanced scientific and research infrastructure that strengthens its pivotal role in supporting the higher education, scientific research, and innovation system. He affirmed that the diversity of its academic and research institutions grants it significant competitiveness at both regional and international levels.

Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Eng. Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria; and Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, inaugurated the exhibition “Twenty Years of Excavations in Shallalat Gardens (2006–2026),” organized by the Antiquities Museum at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in cooperation with the Hellenic Institute for the Research of Alexandrian Civilization. The exhibition reflects an important aspect of Alexandria’s history across the ages. Dr. Konsowa praised the distinguished collections displayed at the Antiquities Museum, which reflect the succession of civilizations, affirming that the Bibliotheca Alexandrina represents a unique cultural and scientific landmark that contributes to promoting intercultural dialogue and spreading archaeological awareness.
