550,000 Beneficiaries and More Than 77,000 Surgical Procedures Reflect the Efficiency of the University Healthcare System

394,600 Laboratory Tests, 54,700 Radiology Examinations, and 5,300 Dialysis Sessions Strengthen Healthcare Services Across Sohag Governorate

As part of the vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, led by Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture, to advance university hospitals and improve the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens, Sohag University has announced the performance achievements of its university hospitals during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The results highlight the continued development of medical, therapeutic, and diagnostic services, enhanced healthcare efficiency, and the growing role of university hospitals in serving the community.

Dr. Hassan El-Noamany, President of Sohag University, affirmed that the university hospitals continue to fulfill their medical, therapeutic, and educational mission with high efficiency. He emphasized the University's commitment to advancing the healthcare system and providing distinguished medical services to the residents of Sohag Governorate and Upper Egypt. During the 2025/2026 fiscal year, the university hospitals served approximately 550,000 beneficiaries, performed more than 77,686 surgical procedures, and delivered over 450,000 diagnostic and laboratory services, reflecting the tremendous efforts made to meet patients' needs and provide comprehensive healthcare.

He added that the University remains committed to supporting its hospitals by upgrading medical infrastructure, enhancing the capabilities of healthcare professionals, and expanding specialized medical services in line with the state's vision for improving the healthcare sector and raising the quality of services provided to citizens.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Nasr El-Din Hamdoun, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board, stated that the hospitals achieved outstanding performance indicators across various sectors during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The Emergency and Reception Department received 71,456 patients, while 52,578 patients were admitted for inpatient care. In addition, 32,452 surgical procedures were performed through the Emergency Department. The main hospital's outpatient clinics received 198,345 visitors, with 15,678 inpatient admissions referred through the outpatient clinics.

He noted that the university hospitals continued expanding specialized healthcare services, contributing to improved quality of patient care and strengthening the efficiency of the healthcare system throughout Sohag Governorate.

Dr. Ahmed Kamal Abdel Hamid, Executive Director of the University Hospitals, confirmed that the hospitals achieved remarkable performance in both therapeutic and diagnostic services. During the fiscal year, 45,234 surgical procedures were performed across various specialties, 394,566 laboratory tests and 54,678 radiology examinations were conducted, and 5,345 dialysis sessions were provided. These achievements reflect the expertise of the medical staff and the advanced treatment capabilities available at the university hospitals.

He further emphasized that the hospitals continue implementing comprehensive development plans aimed at improving healthcare services, enhancing operational efficiency, and equipping various departments with state-of-the-art medical technologies. These efforts ensure the provision of integrated, safe, and high-quality healthcare services while meeting patients' needs around the clock.

The achievements of the 2025/2026 fiscal year reaffirm Sohag University Hospitals' continued success in fulfilling their therapeutic, educational, and research mission while reinforcing their role in supporting Egypt's healthcare system. Through the delivery of integrated healthcare services that meet the highest quality standards, the hospitals continue to advance the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's vision for the development of university hospitals.
