The Suez University branch in Abu Redis will become the first branch of a public university in South Sinai.
On the occasion of the 44th anniversary of Sinai Liberation, and within the framework of the state’s direction toward accelerating comprehensive development, particularly in the Sinai Peninsula and Canal cities, the higher education and scientific research sector continues to receive significant support from the political leadership, contributing to the development of this strategic region.
Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, affirmed that the state gives great attention to the development of Sinai and Canal cities under the unprecedented support of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, noting the implementation of numerous major national and developmental projects in the field of higher education, with total investments amounting to approximately EGP 25.6 billion, alongside the continued establishment of new faculties and the modernization of laboratories and training workshops.
The Minister explained that Egypt’s higher education system has witnessed remarkable expansion in recent years, whether through the establishment of new universities, hosting branches of international universities, or offering joint programs granting dual degrees. This reflects the diversity of the educational system, including public, private, national, and technological universities, as well as branches of foreign universities and institutes.
He pointed out that this diversity aims to meet the globally changing labor market requirements while enhancing academic and research cooperation among educational institutions, opening broader horizons for scientific partnerships and contributing to the preparation of qualified human cadres.
Dr. Ashraf Heneigel, President of Suez University, highlighted the continuation of construction work at the Suez University branch in Abu Redis, South Sinai, which will become the first branch of a public university in South Sinai, in addition to the establishment of a national university affiliated with the public university.
He noted that the total cost of the project will reach approximately EGP 3.5 billion, explaining that the first phase includes four faculties. Concrete structural works have already been completed, while finishing works will continue. He emphasized the importance of the university branch in supporting development efforts in South Sinai Governorate.
Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry, stated that the establishment of several universities in the Sinai Peninsula and Canal cities comes within the framework of the state’s comprehensive vision for developing the education system.
He noted that work is currently underway to complete the Suez University branch in Abu Redis, South Sinai Governorate, representing a significant addition to higher education in Egypt, alongside the establishment of a national university affiliated with the public university.
He added that these universities contribute to encouraging students from Sinai and Canal cities to pursue university education, enhancing their cultural awareness, and supporting comprehensive development efforts in these regions.
They also help meet the continuously increasing demand for university education and provide distinguished educational opportunities that contribute to preparing graduates capable of meeting labor market requirements, in line with the goals of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research.
