Minister of Higher Education Receives Red Sea Governor to Discuss Cooperation on Development and Public Service Projects

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Meets Red Sea Governor to Discuss Development Cooperation

Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, received Dr. Walid El-Barqi, Governor of the Red Sea, at the Ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. The meeting was attended by Dr. El-Sayed Kandil, President of Capital University, to discuss mechanisms for joint cooperation on a number of development and public service projects in the Red Sea Governorate.

During the meeting, Dr. Konsowa emphasized the Ministry's commitment to leveraging the scientific, research, and academic expertise of universities and research institutions to support development plans across Egypt's governorates. He noted that this approach contributes to providing practical and scientific solutions to development challenges while advancing the state's sustainable development goals.

The Minister highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships between universities and local executive authorities, as well as making greater use of specialized academic expertise to support development and service projects. He stressed that such cooperation helps maximize the impact of scientific research and aligns research outcomes with the needs of society and national development priorities.

Dr. Konsowa also reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to enhancing the social role of universities by expanding the implementation of medical, developmental, and awareness convoys across various regions, particularly in border and remote areas, to ensure broader access to essential services and support the state's comprehensive development efforts.

The meeting also addressed cooperation between the Ministry and the Red Sea Governorate in implementing the visual identity project for the city of Hurghada. As one of the state's national initiatives, the project aims to strengthen the city's urban and cultural character through the development of streets, public squares, and public and private buildings, creating a unified visual identity that reflects Hurghada's unique environmental landscape as one of Egypt's leading tourist destinations. Capital University will contribute by supporting the infrastructure required for the project.

In addition, the two sides discussed cooperation in organizing integrated medical and development convoys throughout the Red Sea Governorate. The Minister noted that the Ministry has established an "Integrated Convoys Committee" as part of universities' role in community service and environmental development. The initiative aims to expand coverage across all regions, particularly border and remote areas, with each university responsible for organizing convoys within its geographical scope and neighboring areas to enhance services provided to citizens.

The meeting further explored cooperation to strengthen infrastructure in the Red Sea Governorate, particularly in the electricity and drinking water sectors. Dr. Konsowa directed the formation of a tripartite committee of specialized professors to examine opportunities for expanding the use of renewable energy in remote areas. He also instructed the establishment of a working group to develop a comprehensive master plan for extending potable water services across the governorate, supporting sustainable development efforts and improving the quality of public services.

For his part, Dr. Walid El-Barqi expressed his appreciation for the ongoing cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasizing the importance of benefiting from the academic and scientific expertise of Egyptian universities to support development projects in the governorate, particularly in infrastructure development, renewable energy, and community services, in line with Egypt's sustainable development goals and the needs of its citizens.
