President of Hiroshima University Meets Members of the Supreme Council of Universities
Discussions on Establishing Joint Centers of Research Excellence Between Hiroshima University and Egyptian Universities
Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, received Dr. Mitsuo Ochi, President of Hiroshima University of Japan, and the accompanying delegation.
The President of Hiroshima University also met with members of the Supreme Council of Universities, where he held extensive discussions with presidents of Egyptian universities on prospects for enhancing academic and research cooperation, as well as opportunities to expand joint programs and exchange expertise in priority fields.
At the outset of the meeting, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research emphasized the depth of Egyptian-Japanese relations, noting that cooperation with Hiroshima University represents an advanced model of international partnerships in higher education, particularly in priority scientific and technological fields.
The Minister praised the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and the executive agreement for the dual master’s degree program between the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) and Hiroshima University. He added that Cairo, Alexandria, Ain Shams, Assiut, and Mansoura universities — along with any universities wishing to join in the future — will be part of this agreement. He stressed the importance of this step in supporting and strengthening cooperation between both sides in several vital disciplines, foremost among them semiconductor technology, engineering, and advanced scientific and applied fields, in a manner that supports the state’s efforts to prepare qualified human cadres capable of competing regionally and internationally in technological sectors.
The Minister added that this cooperation represents a model that can serve as a foundation for expanding partnerships between both sides by broadening the scope of cooperation linking Hiroshima University with various Egyptian universities.
The meeting also discussed mechanisms for establishing joint centers of research excellence between Hiroshima University and a number of Egyptian universities. Dr. Konsowa affirmed Egypt’s keenness to cooperate with Japan in localizing advanced technologies and developing educational curricula in these fields, thereby strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional hub for transnational education in accordance with the latest international systems and standards. He also referred to the Ministry’s vision aimed at internationalizing higher education, linking education with scientific research and industry, and enhancing innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems within universities and research centers.
For his part, the President of Hiroshima University expressed his appreciation for the level of cooperation between Japan and Egypt, pointing to the strong and distinguished partnerships linking Hiroshima University with several Egyptian universities. He also affirmed the university’s commitment to expanding this partnership in the coming period, particularly in supporting human capacity building in advanced scientific and technological fields.
Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing coordination to implement the outcomes of the signed agreements, in a way that strengthens the strategic partnership between Egypt and Japan in higher education and supports the state’s direction toward building a knowledge- and innovation-based economy.
