• University Medical City to expand the capacity of university hospitals to 1,262 beds in support of high-quality healthcare services
As part of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's efforts to enhance the performance of university hospitals and improve the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens, Kafr El Sheikh University Hospitals continued to achieve outstanding performance indicators during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. These achievements reflect the university's success in advancing its healthcare system and strengthening its therapeutic, educational, and research missions, in line with the vision of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, to further develop university hospitals and expand specialized healthcare services.
Dr. Yehia Zakaria Eid, President of Kafr El Sheikh University, emphasized that the university hospitals have become one of Egypt's leading medical, educational, and research institutions, providing healthcare services to more than 3.8 million citizens in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate and neighboring governorates. He noted that the university continues to invest in developing its human resources and medical infrastructure to ensure the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services in accordance with the highest quality standards.
The University President explained that the university is implementing an ambitious expansion plan through the establishment of the Kafr El Sheikh University Medical City, which will increase the total capacity of the university hospitals to 1,262 beds. The project includes several major healthcare facilities, most notably a new Emergency Hospital, an Integrated Oncology Center, and a Teaching and Outpatient Clinics Complex, all of which will significantly strengthen the university's ability to provide advanced medical care, education, and research services.
Dr. Yehia Zakaria Eid added that the performance indicators for FY 2025/2026 reflect the efficiency of the university hospitals' healthcare system. During the fiscal year, the hospitals received nearly 140,000 patients, including 2,500 emergency cases, 23,025 inpatient admissions, 3,630 intensive care patients, and 182 neonatal intensive care cases.
For his part, Dr. Taha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of University Hospitals, stated that the hospitals achieved outstanding results across a wide range of medical specialties. During the fiscal year, they performed 13,500 surgical procedures, 1,353 endoscopic procedures, 8,935 dialysis sessions, and 5,000 chemotherapy sessions, demonstrating the high level of expertise of the medical teams and the continuous advancement of the hospitals' therapeutic capabilities.
He further noted that diagnostic and supporting medical services also recorded remarkable performance, with 33,000 diagnostic imaging examinations, nearly 16,000 CT and MRI scans, 18,500 ultrasound examinations, and 304,189 laboratory tests conducted. In addition, the hospitals supplied 2,991 blood units through the Blood Bank, underscoring their readiness to provide integrated healthcare services in line with the highest standards of quality.
Dr. Hany Hamed, Executive Director of the University Hospitals, highlighted the hospitals' continued commitment to community service through active participation in national health initiatives, most notably the "100 Million Healthy Lives" initiative, women's health programs, and early detection campaigns for chronic diseases as well as breast and liver cancers. He added that the hospitals also provide remote patient follow-up through a telemedicine system, which benefited approximately 1,600 patients during the fiscal year, in addition to organizing 50 medical outreach convoys annually to serve villages and underserved communities.
The Executive Director reaffirmed that Kafr El Sheikh University remains committed to further developing its healthcare, educational, and research services while expanding the use of advanced medical technologies. These efforts aim to enhance the quality of healthcare delivery and reinforce the university hospitals' position as one of Egypt's leading academic medical centers.
