A New Milestone in International Scientific Publishing: 60 Egyptian Scientific Journals Featured in Clarivate's 2025 Journal Citation Reports

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research: Achievement Reflects the Success of Efforts to Promote International Scientific Publishing and Enhance the Quality of Egyptian Research

The 2025 Journal Citation Reports (JCR), released by Clarivate, has recognized 60 Egyptian scientific journals, reflecting the continuous advancement of Egyptian scholarly publications and strengthening their international visibility.

According to the report, eight Egyptian journals were ranked in the first quartile (Q1), 11 journals in the second quartile (Q2), 12 journals in the third quartile (Q3), and 27 journals in the fourth quartile (Q4). In addition, two journals were indexed without a quartile ranking.

The report also highlighted the outstanding performance of Egyptian journals across 39 academic disciplines, demonstrating broad disciplinary diversity. These fields include medical, health, and pharmaceutical sciences; engineering, technology, and basic sciences; agricultural, environmental, biological, and veterinary sciences; economics, business administration, and political science; as well as archaeology, conservation, and heritage studies.

Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, praised the strong representation of journals published by institutions within Egypt's higher education and research system in the report, noting that several of them were ranked among the highest-impact and most-cited journals in their respective fields.

The Minister emphasized that this achievement reflects the success of the Ministry's efforts to develop Egypt's research ecosystem and promote high-quality international scientific publishing. These efforts contribute to strengthening the global standing of Egyptian academic and research institutions while increasing the impact and citation rates of Egyptian scientific research.

Dr. Konsowa also commended the universities and research centers whose journals advanced in this year's report, praising the dedication of editorial boards and researchers to improving the quality of scientific publishing. He reaffirmed the state's commitment to enhancing the international competitiveness of Egyptian research by aligning it with global standards and placing particular emphasis on applied scientific research. These efforts, he noted, support Egypt's position as a regional hub for knowledge and innovation while contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt Vision 2030.

For his part, Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry, stated that the growing number of Egyptian journals included in Clarivate's reports reflects the success of ongoing efforts to promote international scientific publishing, improve the quality of research outputs, and strengthen research collaboration with leading scientific institutions worldwide. He also highlighted the continuous efforts of Egyptian universities and research centers to increase publication in prestigious international journals, enhance research impact and citation rates, and improve global research performance indicators, affirming the Ministry's continued commitment to providing technical support to academic and research institutions.

The Journal Citation Reports (JCR), published annually by Clarivate, is one of the world's leading references for evaluating scientific journals. Based on data from the Web of Science database, the report includes journals that meet rigorous standards related to scientific quality, peer review, research integrity, publication consistency, and scholarly impact.

The 2025 edition includes more than 22,000 scientific journals across 254 academic disciplines, representing over 100 countries worldwide, reaffirming the report's position as one of the most important international benchmarks for assessing the quality and research impact of scientific journals.

Within the Journal Citation Reports, journals are classified into quartiles (Q1–Q4) within each discipline according to their Journal Impact Factor. Q1 represents the top 25% of journals in a given field, followed by Q2 (25–50%), Q3 (50–75%), and Q4, which includes the remaining 25% of journals within the same subject category.

The Ministry also highlighted the continued pivotal role of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) in providing researchers, scientists, and decision-makers with access to world-class scientific resources. This support contributes to advancing scientific research, strengthening the international visibility of Egyptian academic and research institutions, improving the global rankings of universities and research centers, and advancing the objectives of Egypt Vision 2030.
