Within the framework of the State’s orientation towards promoting sustainability concepts and rationalizing resource consumption, and in implementation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s strategy to activate the role of youth as active partners in national initiatives, the Higher Institute of Social Work in Cairo organized the Forum for Higher Institutes’ Youth in Greater Cairo on Energy Consumption Rationalization. The forum was held as part of the “Save It… Light It” initiative launched by the Ministry, with the participation of 14 higher institutes, in an experience reflecting growing student awareness of environmental and energy issues and their ability to translate knowledge into practical applications.

Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to supporting student initiatives and activities that contribute to spreading the culture of sustainability and raising awareness of energy conservation issues. He noted that students represent a key pillar in implementing national initiatives and achieving sustainable development goals through adopting positive behaviors and responsible practices within and beyond the academic community.

The forum was held under the patronage of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and under the supervision of Dr. Karim Hammam, Advisor to the Minister for Student Activities and Director of the Leaders Preparation Institute, and Dr. Abdel Hakim Ahmed Mohamed, Dean of the Higher Institute of Social Work in Cairo, as part of supporting purposeful student activities that promote a culture of sustainability within the academic community.

The forum featured a comprehensive set of awareness, educational, sports, and artistic activities, including a dialogue session attended by Dr. Hytham Ramadan, Technical Officer at the Office of the Minister of Endowments, on the importance of energy conservation from a religious perspective. A football tournament was also organized under the slogan “Save It… Light It” for higher institutes, reflecting the use of sports activities as an innovative tool for disseminating awareness messages.

The forum also included a general knowledge competition focusing on renewable energy, green environment concepts, and sustainability, in addition to an art exhibition showcasing students’ handmade works based on recycling, along with innovative models reflecting students’ capabilities in providing practical solutions to support resource conservation.

Dr. Karim Hammam affirmed that the forum reflects the vital role of student activities in supporting national initiatives, noting that students represent a real force capable of creating tangible change in society through adopting sustainable practices and promoting energy conservation culture within and beyond educational institutions, thereby contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals.

For his part, Dr. Abdel Hakim Ahmed Mohamed stated that hosting the forum stems from the Institute’s commitment to its societal and developmental role and its support for initiatives that build real awareness among students regarding environmental and energy issues. He stressed that such events represent an important platform for developing students’ skills and enhancing their ability to innovate and actively participate in community service.

Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stated that the initiative aims to enhance societal awareness and expand participation to ensure that awareness messages reach the largest possible segment of students, supporting the State’s efforts to entrench the culture of sustainability and energy conservation.

This forum comes as part of a series of activities implemented by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research across universities and institutes, aimed at consolidating environmental sustainability concepts, encouraging student innovation and participation in national initiatives, and strengthening their role as key partners in achieving sustainable development and building a more resource-efficient future.
