Under the patronage of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chairman of the Egyptian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, the Electronics Research Institute concluded the activities of the “Supporting Innovative Startups in Renewable Energy Fields” Forum, organized in cooperation with the Egyptian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, at the Institute’s headquarters on May 10–11.
The closing session was attended by Dr. Sherine Moharram, President of the Electronics Research Institute; Dr. Rami Magdy, Assistant Secretary-General for ALECSO and ICESCO Affairs at the Egyptian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture; and Dr. Mohamed Sand Abu Darwish, Director of the Science Department at the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).
The forum also witnessed the participation of a distinguished group of experts and specialists in renewable energy, entrepreneurship, and technology transfer from Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan, Qatar, Oman, Palestine, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, and Iraq.
During the closing day activities, presentations of startup projects and innovative ideas submitted by youth and researchers in renewable energy and green technology continued, with participating teams showcasing a range of innovative solutions based on modern technologies and artificial intelligence to address energy and environmental challenges.
The closing activities also included the third scientific session entitled “The Role of Arab Institutions and Organizations in Supporting Entrepreneurship and Innovation: Real-Life Models,” chaired by Dr. Hany Ayad, faculty member at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport and Chairman of the Young Entrepreneurs Association. The session discussed the importance of building Arab and international partnerships to support digital entrepreneurship, as well as the role of Arab institutions and organizations in strengthening the innovation ecosystem and empowering youth.
The session featured a lecture by Dr. Ahmed Al-Yasiri, Secretary-General of the International Chamber of Commerce in Iraq, who addressed ways to enhance partnerships with UN and international organizations in developing digital entrepreneurship. Fahd Al-Amleh, Secretary-General of the Arab Network for Creativity and Innovation in the UAE, reviewed the role of institutions and organizations in supporting the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem, while Dr. Sami Nabhan from the Arab Institute for Industrial and Mining Training and Consultancy in Morocco discussed the institute’s efforts in developing innovation skills and youth capacity-building.
Dr. Hassan Diab, Head of Strategic Management and Quality Activities at the Arab Administrative Development Organization in Egypt, discussed the organization’s role in enhancing entrepreneurship and institutional innovation. Dr. Hesham Abdel Nasser, Director of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council at the Association of Arab Universities in Jordan, reviewed the Association’s efforts in empowering youth and promoting entrepreneurship and innovation within Arab higher education institutions. The session also included participation by Dr. Manar Amer, Scientific Expert at the Science and Scientific Research Department of ALECSO, who delivered a presentation entitled: “ALECSO Program for Supporting Innovative Startups: What Has Been Achieved and What Do We Aspire to?”
The activities also included a workshop entitled “Personal Skills for the Contemporary Entrepreneur: Professional Marketing for Your Project,” presented by Dr. Sami Nabhan, focusing on the importance of developing leadership and marketing skills for young entrepreneurs, building the marketing identity of startups, and enhancing their competitiveness in the market.
As part of discussions on financing and investment mechanisms, the fourth scientific session was held under the title “Startup Financing Institutions: What Are They and What Is Their Role?” chaired by Dr. Sami Krishan, strategic expert and specialist in Arab cooperation programs. The session discussed the role of financing and investment institutions in supporting startups and renewable energy and technology projects, as well as mechanisms for supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in the Arab world.
The session featured a lecture by Dr. Wael El-Desouki, Secretary-General of the صالح كامل Organization for Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Project Development in Egypt, who discussed the role of entrepreneurship in supporting and financing startups from the idea stage to expansion phases. Engineer Mohamed Nawaf Al-Attani, Secretary-General of the Arab Renewable Energy Commission in Jordan, also delivered an online lecture on digital energy and its role in supporting green entrepreneurship.
Dr. Fatma El-Zahraa Khalifa, expert on the Arab Common Electricity Market at the League of Arab States, reviewed the League’s role in supporting the renewable energy sector and enhancing electricity efficiency in the Arab region. Meanwhile, Dr. Amr El-Awamry, CEO of Sanabel Research and Development Company in Egypt, discussed the concept of “venture studios” as an incubating environment for financing deep-tech companies in the Arab world. Dr. Bilal Al-Naqati, strategic planning expert at ALECSO in Tunisia, also discussed the reality of startup financing in the Arab world, highlighting the existing gap between innovative ideas and funding sources.
On the sidelines of the forum, a field visit was organized to the laboratories and departments of the Electronics Research Institute and the Science and Technology City for Electronics Research and Industry affiliated with the Institute. Participants and Arab delegations reviewed the advanced research and technological capabilities possessed by the Institute and its role in supporting applied research and advanced technology in the fields of energy, electronics, digital transformation, startups, and entrepreneurship.
It is worth noting that throughout the two-day forum, evaluation and judging committees continued their work according to approved scientific and technical standards by reviewing, discussing, and evaluating participating projects, leading to the approval of the final results of the winning projects.

The evaluation committees praised the outstanding scientific level of the participating projects and the innovative ideas and practical solutions they presented in the fields of renewable energy and sustainability, reflecting growing awareness of the role of applied scientific research, modern technologies, and artificial intelligence in supporting sustainable development and the transition toward a green economy.
The ALECSO delegation, headed by Dr. Mohamed Sand Abu Darwish, also expressed sincere appreciation to Dr. Sherine Moharram, President of the Electronics Research Institute; Dr. Rami Magdy, Assistant Secretary-General for ALECSO and ICESCO Affairs at the Egyptian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture; Engineer Marwa Ahmed, Director of the Science Department at the Egyptian National Commission and activity coordinator; and the working teams of the Institute and the Commission, in recognition of their distinguished efforts in organizing the forum and presenting it in a manner that strengthens Arab cooperation in innovation, renewable energy, and technological entrepreneurship.
At the conclusion of the forum, participants called for the continued organization of such specialized Arab events, considering them an important platform for exchanging expertise, building partnerships, and enhancing cooperation among research institutions, experts, entrepreneurs, and youth across Arab countries, in support of sustainable development and the transition toward a knowledge- and innovation-based green economy.
It is worth mentioning that the forum coincided with the official inclusion of the Electronics Research Institute in the ALECSO list of Arab scientific research centers specialized in renewable energy for the 2025–2026 cycle, reflecting the Institute’s leading scientific and research status at the Arab level.
