Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, inaugurated a new building at the University of Hertfordshire hosted by the Global Academic Foundation in Egypt. This inauguration comes as part of the university’s continuous expansion plans and in support of the Ministry’s efforts to develop the higher education system in accordance with the latest international standards.
On the sidelines of the inauguration, the Minister chaired a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Global Academic Foundation, attended by university leaders and international partners, during which the university’s vision and future international expansion and development plans were reviewed.
During the meeting, Dr. Vincent Emery, President of the University of Hertfordshire in Egypt, delivered a presentation outlining the university’s strategy for enhancing the quality of international education. A documentary film was also presented, showcasing the various stages of the project—from planning and design to construction and equipping—according to the latest global standards.
In his remarks, Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa affirmed that the Egyptian state places the development of higher education among its top priorities, noting that partnerships with international universities represent a fundamental pillar in transferring global expertise and localizing knowledge in Egypt.
He added that the expansion taking place at the University of Hertfordshire in Egypt reflects a successful model for integrating infrastructure development with the delivery of academic programs that meet international standards. He stressed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting such models, which contribute to preparing graduates with competitive skills that meet labor market demands.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of linking education with industry and labor market needs through the implementation of the Faculty to Factory model, which aims to transform scientific research outcomes into industrial and economic applications, thereby maximizing the role of research in supporting national development plans.
He further emphasized that the Ministry is working to provide sustainable funding mechanisms to support applied research projects that serve national industries, strengthen the knowledge-based economy, and enhance Egypt’s competitiveness.
Dr. Moataz Ghanem, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, expressed his pride in the university’s expansion, affirming that this step reflects a strategic vision aimed at delivering an integrated educational experience capable of meeting future requirements.
For his part, Dr. Ashraf Abdelbaset, Academic President of the university’s Egypt branch, stated that this expansion represents an important step toward consolidating the university’s position as one of the leading models of international education in Egypt, noting the university’s commitment to offering advanced academic programs built on innovation and aligned with international standards.
In the same context, Dr. Omayma Hatem, University Advisor, affirmed that the university continuously develops its academic programs in line with the latest global education systems to ensure the highest quality standards.
She added that the university is making notable progress in international rankings, reflecting the strength of its academic and research system and confirming its success in providing an integrated educational experience that combines academic excellence with practical application.
She also praised the outstanding role of students, affirming that they are at the heart of the educational process, and commended the efforts of faculty members and staff for their dedication to enhancing educational quality and improving overall institutional performance.
The British Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt also praised the strength of educational cooperation between Egypt and the United Kingdom, affirming that the university represents a successful model of fruitful academic partnership between the two countries.
Following the meeting, the Minister toured the university campus, including the new building, which features advanced classrooms and laboratories equipped with the latest technologies. He praised the quality of the facilities and infrastructure, which reflect the application of the latest international standards in education.
The event was attended by Dr. Anthony Woodman, Dr. Vincent Emery, Dr. Moataz Ghanem, Dr. Ashraf Abdelbaset, Dr. Omayma Hatem, along with a number of academic and diplomatic leaders.
The inauguration of the new building marks another milestone in the university’s rapid growth journey. The campus extends over 50 acres and includes advanced infrastructure featuring academic and administrative buildings, integrated sports facilities, expanded state-of-the-art laboratories, and a steadily growing student population.
The event also witnessed the launch announcement of the university’s first Enterprise Hub, an integrated platform designed to support innovation and entrepreneurship by enabling students to develop their ideas into viable projects and connect them with the labor market.
The hub provides a comprehensive system that starts with idea generation and development, followed by prototype design, and extends to marketing and connecting projects with partners—enhancing the transformation of innovative ideas into competitive startups.
This expansion reaffirms the university’s commitment to supporting the state’s efforts to develop higher education through investment in infrastructure, the provision of distinguished academic programs, and the preparation of highly qualified graduates, thereby contributing to sustainable development and the establishment of a knowledge-based economy.
