Minister of Higher Education, Minya Governor, and President of Minya University Inaugurate Pediatric Emergency and Care Hospital at Minya University at a Cost of EGP 300 Million

Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Major General Emad Kadwani, Governor of Minya; and Dr. Essam Farahat, President of Minya University, inaugurated on Tuesday morning the Pediatric Emergency and Care Hospital at Minya University, with an estimated cost of EGP 300 million. The project aims to support emergency and critical care services for children and provide comprehensive medical care in accordance with the latest standards. The event was attended by Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry, along with a number of governorate and university officials.

Dr. Konsowa affirmed that the Ministry continues its efforts to enhance the quality of healthcare services and medical education, and to develop the university hospitals system in a way that contributes to improving healthcare services for citizens. He also highlighted the importance of supporting medical education and scientific research by developing the capabilities of young doctors and nursing staff through advanced training and educational programs, linking academic learning with practical applications and international standards.

The Minister emphasized the vital role of university hospitals in delivering healthcare services, education, and scientific research, noting ongoing efforts to modernize facilities, increase bed capacity, equip hospitals with advanced medical technologies, and digitize administrative systems to streamline procedures and improve service efficiency.

For his part, Major General Emad Kadwani stressed the importance of university hospitals in serving the Egyptian community, pointing to the significant progress in the healthcare sector driven by the state’s efforts to modernize university hospitals in line with international standards. He noted that this integration represents a strategic approach to improving healthcare services and maximizing the use of available resources.

Dr. Essam Farahat stated that the establishment of the hospital contributes to providing 24/7 emergency services for pediatric cases, offering both critical and intermediate care in pediatrics and pediatric surgery, and strengthening the capacity and quality of services within the university hospitals system.

The Pediatric Emergency and Care Hospital is built on a total area of 4,500 square meters, with a total capacity of 200 beds. The facility includes two floors designated as hotel-style accommodation for doctors, comprising 36 rooms and 84 beds, in addition to a cafeteria on each floor, serving the university medical complex, which includes five hospitals.

The hospital provides a wide range of services, including pediatric surgical emergency care, diagnosis and treatment of surgical cases, neonatal intensive care and incubation services for premature infants, intermediate and intensive care services, management of critical cases, and integration with other medical specialties.

The hospital consists of a ground floor and multiple upper floors. The first floor includes a pediatric surgery emergency unit (examination room and 5 observation beds), a cardiopulmonary resuscitation room, a pediatric emergency reception unit (examination room and 10 observation beds), and an operating suite with two pediatric surgery operating rooms. The second floor includes an inpatient ward for emergency cases and two critical care units, equipped through contributions from civil society and students of the Faculty of Medicine (Class 38). The third floor includes an inpatient ward for emergency admissions, while the fourth and fifth floors provide hotel-style accommodation for doctors during on-call shifts, serving the university hospitals complex comprising five hospitals.
