Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, inaugurated on Tuesday morning a number of educational and service projects at Minya University, with an estimated total cost of approximately EGP 350 million. He was accompanied by Major General Emad Kadwani, Governor of Minya; Dr. Essam Farahat, President of Minya University; Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry; along with a number of governorate and university officials.
The Minister inaugurated the hotel-style student housing building within the university campus, which represents a modern model of premium university accommodation. The building has a capacity of 240 beds and 10 fully equipped hotel suites, constructed at an estimated cost of EGP 100 million. The facility offers a distinguished (4-star) level of accommodation, with rooms equipped to the highest technical standards.
The Minister also reviewed the final preparations for the operation of the university hotel, which has undergone development and upgrading works at an estimated cost of EGP 200 million to date. The project aims to achieve a distinguished (5-star) hotel standard, with a capacity of up to 400 beds, contributing to boosting tourism and investment in the governorate. The development works included upgrading the structural and architectural components of the building, implementing high-quality interior and exterior finishes in line with international hospitality standards, and modernizing all facilities and services. Guest rooms and units have been equipped with the latest amenities to ensure high-quality service.
Furthermore, the Minister inspected the development works of the university campus in accordance with fourth-generation university standards, with an estimated cost of EGP 50 million to date. The project included implementing a modern master plan reflecting the university’s visual and historical identity, redesigning green spaces, sidewalks, and pathways, expanding the use of alternative energy sources, preserving the aesthetic and architectural harmony of buildings, establishing an integrated connectivity network among university facilities, and ensuring accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Dr. Konsowa praised the tangible achievements witnessed at Minya University across various fields, including academic, research, healthcare, and service sectors. He emphasized that the political leadership places great importance on public universities to enable them to fulfill their academic mission by expanding into disciplines aligned with labor market needs, offering modern academic programs, and creating an attractive learning environment that equips students with diverse skills and experiences. He also highlighted the importance of practical training to prepare students for local, regional, and international labor markets.
For his part, Major General Emad Kadwani affirmed that the state is making continuous and significant efforts across various development sectors, particularly in higher education and scientific research. He expressed pride in Minya University’s distinguished position within the higher education system, noting that it represents a leading academic and research institution reflecting the development witnessed in the governorate. He reaffirmed the governorate’s commitment to providing all necessary support to sustain the university’s excellence and leadership.
Dr. Essam Farahat stated that Minya University is actively implementing the state’s vision for developing higher education, achieving institutional excellence, improving the quality of the educational environment on campus, supporting digital transformation, and enhancing technological infrastructure to meet students’ needs. These efforts aim to create an integrated educational environment that fosters innovation, creativity, and excellence, in line with achieving sustainable development goals.
Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry, noted that the projects inaugurated today represent a significant achievement and are the result of substantial investments in the university. He emphasized the Ministry’s and universities’ commitment to providing full support to students and creating a stimulating educational environment that promotes creativity and excellence, ultimately benefiting the nation.
