Al-Arish University: An Integrated Academic Institution Supporting Excellence in Education and Research and Serving Sustainable Development Plans
On the occasion of the 44th anniversary of Sinai Liberation, and within the framework of the state’s vision to accelerate comprehensive development—particularly in the Sinai Peninsula and Canal cities—the higher education and scientific research sector continues to receive significant support from the political leadership. This support has contributed substantially to the development of this strategic region and strengthened its developmental role.
Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, affirmed that the state attaches great importance to the development of Sinai and the Canal cities, with unprecedented support from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, noting that numerous national and developmental projects have been implemented in the higher education sector with total investments amounting to approximately EGP 25.6 billion, in addition to the ongoing establishment of new faculties and the upgrading of laboratories and training workshops.
The Minister explained that Egypt’s higher education system has witnessed remarkable expansion in recent years, through the establishment of new universities, the hosting of branches of international universities, and the introduction of joint academic programs granting dual degrees. This reflects the diversity of Egypt’s higher education landscape, which includes public, private, national, technological, and foreign university branches, as well as institutes.
He emphasized that this diversity aims to meet the evolving requirements of the global labor market and strengthen academic and research cooperation, thereby preparing qualified human resources capable of competing regionally and internationally.
For his part, Dr. Ayman El-Shebeiny, President of Al-Arish University, stated that the university has embarked on a comprehensive development plan aimed at upgrading infrastructure and improving educational and service facilities through the implementation of several projects with total funding amounting to EGP 1.7 billion.
He explained that these projects include the construction of an integrated medical complex on an area of 50 feddans, comprising a university hospital, an emergency hospital, the faculties of pharmacy and nursing, as well as several specialized clinics. Work is also continuing on the تجهيز Al-Arish Technological University, while the university simultaneously seeks to enhance academic and research cooperation, encourage students to participate in various activities, organize developmental convoys, launch blood donation campaigns, and hold awareness seminars aimed at promoting community awareness.
The university president added that Al-Arish University is working to create an educational environment that fosters creativity and innovation. Approval has been granted for the establishment of a Technology Valley within the university, alongside the launch of specialized scientific and community initiatives.
He affirmed that the university is moving steadily toward establishing the model of “productive education” through an integrated strategic vision linking educational outcomes with labor market needs, thereby supporting comprehensive development efforts in North Sinai Governorate, achieving sustainable development goals, and qualifying graduates for local, regional, and international labor markets.
In the same context, Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasized the state’s continued support for public universities, which now number 28 universities across the country.
He pointed to the importance of strengthening cooperation between universities and productive, research, and industrial institutions, as well as engaging in regional alliances, while also activating the universities’ community role through the launch of medical and service convoys.
He added that Al-Arish University represents a fundamental pillar in supporting development in North Sinai Governorate, thanks to its distinguished academic staff and modern academic programs that meet labor market needs. He stressed the university’s commitment to building effective partnerships with various productive and industrial sectors, contributing to the preparation of qualified graduates capable of supporting comprehensive development plans in Sinai.
