Discussions Held on Cooperation with FISU to Support Egypt’s Bid to Host the 2031 Summer World University Games for the First Time in Africa
In a step that reflects Egypt’s commitment to strengthening international academic partnerships and advancing specialized sports education, in line with the State’s vision and the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to enhance the regional and international competitiveness of Egyptian universities, Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between The British University in Egypt (BUE), headed by Dr. Mohamed Lotfy, President of the University, and the International University Sports Federation (FISU), represented by its President, Mr. Leonz Eder, to launch the first Sports Management Master’s Program in the Middle East.
The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the New Administrative Capital, in the presence of Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, President of the African University Sports Federation and a member of FISU.
Under the protocol, The British University in Egypt joins the FISU Master Programme in Sports Management as an academic partner, becoming the first university in Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa to participate in the program. Supervised by FISU, the internationally recognized program aims to prepare future leaders specialized in sports management, sports institutions, and sports event administration in accordance with global best practices.
The meeting also included discussions on cooperation with FISU regarding Egypt’s bid to host the 2031 Summer World University Games, which would mark the first time the event is held in Africa. In this context, Dr. Konsowa emphasized the importance of expanding Egypt’s hosting of international university sporting events, reaffirming the country’s leading regional and global role and its proven ability to organize and host major sporting competitions and events.
Dr. Konsowa stressed that this partnership represents a successful model of cooperation between academic institutions and international organizations to advance university sports in Egypt in line with global standards. He noted that the initiative reflects a shared commitment to investing in human capital and preparing a new generation of leaders capable of managing sports institutions, facilities, and events according to the latest international standards and best practices.
The Minister further highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to developing highly qualified sports professionals, supporting the growth of the sports sector as a promising economic and developmental field, and strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional hub for specialized sports education and training in Africa and the Middle East.
The FISU Master Programme is designed to prepare specialists in sports management, governance, sports marketing, and sports event and facility management through an integrated curriculum that combines academic study, practical applications, and international exposure, helping meet the evolving needs of the modern sports industry and enhancing graduates’ employment opportunities.
