Higher Education and Scientific Research: Inauguration of Third International School of Spectroscopy
According to the directives of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stressing the importance of achieving cooperation and integration between research institutes, the third school of spectroscopy will be organized from 24 to 28 February, with the aim of spreading awareness and scientific culture related to the applications of spectra, in cooperation between the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research headed by Dr. Gad Al-Qadi, and the National Research Center headed by Dr. Mohammed Mahmoud Hashem.
The School of Spectroscopy teaches basics of spectra and a number of important applications that vary from year to year according to participants through a partnership between the Spectra and Molecular Modeling Unit of the National Research Center and the Nanotechnology Unit of the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research.
About 78 participants from various Egyptian universities and research centers are participating in this year's school. They are divided into 6 groups dealing with applications of space sciences, environment, biophysics and materials sciences.
It is noteworthy that spectroscopy is an interdisciplinary science relating chemical sciences and physical sciences. It is concerned with studying and carefully analyzing materials, elements and compounds of various kinds. The Raman spectrum also helps in studying and analyzing some environmental changes and in studying ways of cleaning the surrounding environment using different materials: natural or synthetic.
